Here at Colonial Domestic Agency, our goal is to help you advance your career in the domestic service industry. Now that we are already over a week into 2014, it's time to think about your goals for the next few months. If finding a new job is on your agenda, take a look at these tips on how to dress to impress during your next interview.
- Dress up: "The rule of thumb is that you dress one or two levels higher than the job that you're going for," Kate Wendleton, president and founder of the Five O'Clock Club, a national career counseling and outplacement firm, tells Monster.com. "If you were going for a job as a mechanic, you wouldn't go in there in dirty overalls, even though that's how you would dress for that kind of work. You would go in with an open-collar shirt, clean pants and maybe a jacket." Even though most domestic service positions—including personal chefs and housekeepers—don't require a suit for the job, you still want to make a great first impression in the interview by dressing professionally and looking polished.
- Minimize accessories: Aside from wearing professional attire, the accessories you choose to wear on an interview can make or break your first impression. It's always best to wear closed-toed shoes and stay clear of distracting jewelry and perfume. Fiddling with your outfit or accessories can draw attention away from your skills during the interview process.
