People usually form first impressions in the first 30 seconds they meet you, so make the moment memorable. In part two of our two-part series on dressing for a job interview, we explore a few more clothing items men should always pay attention to.
1. Proper tie
Wearing a tie is often the most fun part of wearing a suit. After donning a solid gray or navy blue suit and slipping on your glossy leather shoes, you'll be tempted to wear a fancy, outgoing tie. It's not frowned upon, but be careful. You don't want to scare the interviewer away. Stay with a neutral color tie.
2. Proper shirt
After spending a good amount of time picking out your suit and ties, you may impulsively grab a pack of six dress shirts and walk to the register. However, it's an ill-fated moved that could destroy your formal look.
Solid white and blue are conservative and work well with any type of suit. If you want to add a little character to your outfit, try an oxford or herringbone. Just stay away from bright, distracting colors as this looks unprofessional.
3. Proper accessories and other items
To round out your ensemble, you'll want to make sure you have the right kind of belt and accessories. Wedding rings and appropriate watches are acceptable, as well as jewelry that is muted in color. Avoid large necklaces, earrings or nose rings. Covering up tattoos is also a good practice.
